Last April, I had the chance to explore the mesmerizing landscapes of Morocco. It was an epic journey where I soaked in the vibrant vibes of Tangier, wandered through the bustling streets of Casablanca, and got lost in the dreamy blue alleys of Chefchaouen. But, you know what? There was a tinge of regret. I missed out on Marrakesh, that legendary city everyone raves about. Time wasn’t on my side, and I had to leave with Marrakesh still unchecked on my bucket list.

Fast forward to today, and I’ve got some seriously exciting news that’s flipping the script on my travel regrets. Air Transat is rolling out the red carpet for all of us North American travelers with the first direct route to Marrakesh. That’s right, no more layovers or missed opportunities. Marrakesh, with all its allure and mystique, is now just a direct flight away. Let’s dive into what this game-changing route means for us travel enthusiasts!

A Special Invite with a Surprise

This past Wednesday (October 25th) I was invited to a special event by Air Transat. Starting next June, it will offer non-stop service between Montreal and Marrakech, Morocco.

See a video showcasing my experience at the event.

A North American First

This is huge, fellow travelers! Air Transat is set to become the only airline in North America to offer non-stop flights to this Moroccan jewel. Picture this: a direct journey from Montreal to Marrakech, twice a week in the summer (June to October) and once a week in the winter (November to April). That’s right, no layovers, no hassle – just a straight path to an exotic adventure.

Expanding Horizons

This new route marks a significant shift for the Montreal-based company. It’s their first destination on the African continent, reflecting a strategic and adventurous leap. Annick Guérard, the president and CEO of Transat, shared her excitement: “We are delighted to make this announcement today, as it marks a milestone in the evolution of our company.” She emphasized that this exclusive, year-round service is a response to both the significant Moroccan community in Montreal and the undeniable tourist appeal of Marrakech.

The Schedule and the Aircraft

From June 12 to October 24, 2024, flights between Montreal and Marrakech will be offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The service will then continue once a week, on Saturdays, until April 20. And let me tell you, these flights are going to be something special.

A Gateway to Wonders

Adel El Fakir, CEO of the Moroccan National Tourism Office, highlighted the significance of this route: “The Montreal-Marrakech with our partner Air Transat is the first non-stop connection to Marrakech from North America. It will open up a wide range of possibilities for all travellers.” Imagine exploring the ochre city of Marrakech and then easily accessing seaside resorts like Essaouira and Agadir, or embarking on tours in the southern part of Morocco.

Final Thoughts

As I left the event, my mind was abuzz with the possibilities this new route opens up. Marrakech has always been on my bucket list, and now, it feels like it’s just a hop, skip, and a flight away. This new route by Air Transat is not just a convenience; it’s a bridge to new cultures, experiences, and memories. So, fellow millennials, let’s start planning our Moroccan adventures because, thanks to Air Transat, Marrakech has never been closer!
